DURANGO'S BEST CHOICE FOR DOG TRAINING!
Your One Stop Training Facility for Obedience, Canine Good Citizen, Agility and Behavior Modification!
 Call  us at: (970) 382-5937

Why choose a professional dog trainer ???
1) We can help you understand the psychology
     behind
successful dog training. If you know why
you are using a training method, you will be more
more likely to stick with a training plan.

2) Our trainers are either certified or actively
pursuing certification. We attend seminars and
conferences to stay on top of the most effective
     training methods.
3) The classes at ACA help you to be more organized
and effective when training your dog.
4) You will learn the importance of consistency,
possibly the most important ingredient in
     successful training.
5) Alpha Canine Academy's classes are FUN & REWARDING!
6) You have access to decades of dog training experience when problems with
     your dog arise.
7) Our professional trainers can help you to understand and choose training
devices when appropriate. Ever heard of a Kong Time, Manners Minder,
Thunder Shirt, Calming Cap, Gentle Leader or Halti?
8) In the long run, training is far less labor intensive than coping with an
unruly, destructive or annoying dog for the next 10 to 15 years.

Why choose Alpha Canine Academy?
1) Our trainers are the best in the Four Corners
with years of education and practical
     experience. When problems arise you
can depend on the team at ACA for all
your training needs. We have been a
valuable part of the Durango training
     community since 2000.

2) Alpha Canine has a full training center
with a training room, fully fenced training
yard, separate pens for improved class
     management and available hiking trails.
3) ACA offers a variety of training classes -
     Baisc Obedience, Canine Good Citizen
     Classes, Agility, and Behavior Modification
for problems. We can help you when you
decide to take your dog's training a step
     further.

4) We have a small retail area to cover your
needs. ACA offers collars, leashes, long
leads, treats, treat bags, head halters, etc. at reasonable
     prices for your convenience.

 Open enrollment? Six week course?
Open enrollment appears to be an attractive option on the surface. It means that you are given a specific day for your class and can drop in on that day of the week when you have the time. Unfortunately, students that are way ahead of you and students that are way behind you will be dropping in also and they each will need individual, specific training that is different than the training that you need. The trainer must take time to train each person individually. So that means that in your one hour class you may get ten minutes of actual instruction time. In traditional, sequential training classes (like the ones at ACA), every student is on the same page and the entire hour of your class is pertinent to you and your dog. It also means that you can get more one on one time with the instructor and your progress will be far more steady.

In short - open enrollment was developed to sign up students but the effectiveness of the training suffers greatly. Sequential classes are far more efficient and effective and you get what you pay for - good dog training.

OUR TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

The trainers of Alpha Canine Academy believe that the incredible intelligence and adaptability of dogs makes them ready and willing partners in learning. While each breed and mix of breeds brings with it specific talents and challenges, all dogs deserve thoughtful and humane leadership.

We employ positive reinforcement as our primary training tool and believe in using the least forceful methods possible even for modifying the most difficult dog behavior problems. The bond that is possible between a dog and owner should not be compromised by harsh or inconsistent training.

Alpha Canine Academy is dedicated to positive training that nurtures this bond and helps create a relationship based on trust and respect.

Training  Tip   #1

THE BEST PARENTS, TEACHERS AND DOG TRAINERS ARE CONSISTENT

No one works well when the rules are applied erratically. If you reprimand your dog for jumping on you when you are dressed up but pet and hug him when he jumps on you when wearing jeans and a tee shirt, there is little way for him to figure out exactly what you are trying to teach. Good training happens when you think things through, develop a training plan and then stick to that plan consistently.

Tripp & Pardner

Pardner is a Jack Russell Terrier that is now well versed in obedience commands and has at least 12 snazzy tricks in his resume.  An adventurous guy, he rides with his Dad, Tripp, in his Harley-Davidson sidecar. Pardner credits Alpha Canine Academy for helping him become a very well-behaved Durango Dog!
